§ 6-66. Definitions.

  • For the purposes of this article, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this section:

    Cat: Any feline animal, male or female, sexed or neutered.

    Dog: Any canine animal, male or female, sexed or neutered.

    Own: Unless otherwise specified, shall mean to possess, keep, harbor, or have control of, charge or custody of a dog or cat. This term shall not apply to dogs and cats owned by other persons which are temporarily maintained on the premises of a veterinarian or kennel operator for a period of no more than 30 days.

    Owner: Any person possessing, keeping, harboring or having charge or control of, or permitting any dog or cat to habitually be or remain on, or be lodged or fed within, such person's house, yard or premises. This term shall not apply to veterinarians or kennel operators temporarily maintaining on their premises dogs or cats owned by other persons for a period of not more than 30 days.

    Rabies control authority: The city humane officer, any police officer or other officer designated by the mayor.

    Vaccination against rabies: The inoculation of a dog or cat with a rabies vaccine licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture on the effective date of this article. Such vaccination must be performed by a veterinarian duly licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state.
